What is Primary Aluminum?
The Primary aluminum is produced by the electrolytic reduction of alumina (Hall-Héroult process). An ultra-lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly conductive non-ferrous metal, it is an indispensable benchmark for the automotive, aerospace, construction, and packaging industries.
The standard grade traded on global markets is P1020A (99.7% purity). Depending on industrial requirements, aluminum is delivered as solid ingots, T-bars, extrusion billets (6000 series), or rolling slabs.

Major Producing Countries & Key Players
Global aluminum production is heavily dependent on access to competitive power (hydroelectricity or natural gas):
-
China: World's leading producer and consumer (over 50% of global supply), directly influencing prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE).
-
Middle East (UAE, Bahrain, Qatar): Major producers thanks to mega-smelters (EGA, Alba), exporting high-quality billets and ingots to Europe and Asia.
-
Russia & India: Historical suppliers of low-carbon primary metal (UC Rusal, Vedanta, Hindalco) supplying the international market.
-
Canada & Norway: Pioneers in low-carbon green aluminum (hydro-powered), in high demand from European and American automotive sectors.
LME Pricing, Regional Premiums & Logistics
Physical aluminum trading relies on an all-in price comprising the official exchange price plus a regional physical premium:
LME Price + Physical Premium
Final price = LME Cash/3M Quote + Regional Premium (e.g., European Duty Paid / Duty Unpaid, US Midwest Premium).
Packaging & Shipping
Shipping via ocean containers (FCL 20ft ~ 24-25 metric tons) or breakbulk shipments for large tonnages.
Quality & Documentation
Each lot is accompanied by a producer Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and inspected by an independent surveyor (SGS, Alex Stewart) at the place of delivery.
